I love librarians, especially ones who know how to get students excited about books. Mrs. Guarnero at Carpenteria (CA) Middle School does a lot to connect kids with books. I had the chance to be a guest author for one of her “Lunch with an Author” days, thanks to Curious Cup bookseller Kiona Gross. When I arrived, the library was decorated and students began streaming, bearing their special “lunch with an author” tickets. The atmosphere was so fun. While the kids ate, I spoke about my own struggles during my middle school years, about my writing process, and about how everything I write has to be revised. The students were attentive and asked great questions, and several told me how much what I spoke about resonated with them. We need and love the Mrs. Guarneros who make the library a place of lifelong learning.
