Yeah, I know.
I’m a guinea pig, but my name is Hamster.
Seriously.
Use it or lose it.
Hey, Mary Amato waltzed into our school
and did some funny things.
She read her old diary to everybody and told them
how she was a chicken-girl,
scared to write when she was young.
Then she made everybody pretend to be
a character.
So instead of girls
the school was filled with wolves and turtles
and robots and even an old man
who throws lemons at kids.
She told me she is coming back in a few weeks
and she can’t wait to hear
all the poems and stories the girls write.
Hey, wait a minute!
Did anybody write about me?

Hi, Ms. Amato,
I am in ms Fowler’s class and took Hamo (hammie) home this weekend. Unfortunatly I got SICK because of the hay in his cage.
I hope you don’t get sick too,
Skye Worster
I’m so sorry you got sick! Are you allergic to the hay? I hope you’re feeling better.–Mary Amato
Hello Ms. Amato. I am in Ms. Fowler’s class also. Thank you for writing about him and thank for visiting us at school!
Hi, I’m looking forward to coming back to Holton-Arms. Have fun writing! –Mary Amato
It was fun when you visited holton the second time! Right now it is spring break. I am in Utah skiing. I think the weather is beautiful. It is not slushy, it is powdery, and it is really fun. I hope guitar notes is going to be good!
Have fun skiing!
Hammo is the cutest!!! He has gotten very chubby since you were here. I think he misses you. Even Hamster has something to say:
I miss Mary
I don’t live on the prairie
I don’t like ice
My name is hamster
But I liked to be called Hammo
I think i’ve gotten tanner
Since Mary Amato was here
I love Hammo’s poem! I miss him and all of the Holton Humans, too!
Hi, I’m Mina. I am in Ms. Fowler’s class and Hammo is our pet guinea pig. I was so surprised to find your web site. I will forward it to Ms. Fowler who I am sure will also get a kick out of it (if she has not already seen it). Thanks
Hi Mrs. Amato,
My name is Jamison, I am in Mrs. Dooling’s class. Thanks for the poem, Hammie is so chubby and very loving. She is cute and cool. She is the best pet anyone could ever have!
P.S I have her right now for two weeks. She is enjoying her stay and boy does she like to eat! Her favorite food is cilantro and Romaine lettuce.
So…kids must take turns caring for Hammie over the summer. It’s like Hammie goes to summer camp!
Hi, I just was looking. Back at this, I used to be in the Fiedler class… Hammo has passed and we are now in grade seven!
