Reading Night at Patuxent Middle School started off great! Thoughtful organizers reserved me a parking spot! Enjoyed meeting parents, middle schoolers, and staff. Thanks to Susan Gum, reading specialist, for making it all happen.
Thanks to enthusiastic reader Abby H. for drawing this amazing portrait!
What a great time I had with readers, teachers, and librarians in Hempfield School District. I spoke with kids at Landisville Primary Center, East Petersburg Elementary School, and Landisville Intermediate Center.
Thanks to librarians Laura Brown and Cathy Koenig as well as the PTOs of the schools and the Hempfield Education Foundation for the support for this visit. So many kids have already contacted me to say that they’re inspired to read and write. Hooray!
Aaron’s Books of Lititz, PA did a great job on the book sale. Check them out at http://www.aaronsbooksonline.com/
Thanks to Friends of Murray Library for purchasing copies of The Naked Mole-Rat Letters for all the book club kids so that they could be prepared for our skype. The skype session was great, and the kids asked fascinating questions.
If you’d like to set up a free 15 min skype session with me, take a look at the dates that I’ve posted for Dec-June. Teachers, librarians, and parents of homeschoolers can sign up now! First come, first served.
Songwriting Workshops with Mary Amato
For Teens
July 26, 27, 28 (Tues,Wed,Thur) from 2:30-5:00 p.m.
Do you love to write poetry but struggle with song lyrics that really work? Or are you a songwriter that wants to take it up a notch? Each day we’ll experiment with a different writing prompt for a new song. We’ll explore tone, word choice, contrast, symbol, metaphor, irony, and point of view in lyrics as well as play around with musical structures. If you play an instrument, I strongly encourage you to bring it, even if it’s not an instrument that typically accompanies a singer. If you do not play an instrument, no worries! Just bring yourself.
$50.00 for one workshop; $90.00 for two; $120 for three.
You can sign up for just one day or all three.
We’ll be doing something different each day.
The workshops will take place in my Silver Spring studio.
Mary Amato is an award-winning author and a singer-songwriter. Her next book will be a novel about two teens and the process of songwriting. www.maryamato.com.
