Landisville Primary Center (PA)

What a great time I had with readers, teachers, and librarians in Hempfield School District. I spoke with kids at Landisville Primary Center, East Petersburg Elementary School, and Landisville Intermediate Center.

Thanks to librarians Laura Brown and Cathy Koenig as well as the PTOs of the schools and the Hempfield Education Foundation for the support for this visit. So many kids have already contacted me to say that they’re inspired to read and write. Hooray!

Aaron’s Books of Lititz, PA did a great job on the book sale. Check them out at http://www.aaronsbooksonline.com/

The Naked Mole-Rat LettersThanks to Friends of the Murray Library in Murray, Utah, for buying all the kids in the book clubs a copy of The Naked Mole-Rat Letters so that they could be prepared for our skype session. The kids asked fascinating questions!!!

Here is the brand new Japanese edition of a book by Mary Amato. Guess which book…

This is my Video Valentine for Michael Cotter and Judith Cayo Cotter, fellow artists who inspire me and many others with their creative energy.

Thanks to librarian Gina Perkins and parent volunteer Joni Williams for bringing me in to get kids excited about writing!

Librarian Sue Dahlstrom surprised me with this rendition of my nostril song (from my book Stinky and Successful) sung by kids at Wayne Elementary School (PA)!

Seeing kids devour books is such a pleasure!!! This week, I had the privilege of visiting a school in Anacostia through Dara La Porte’s new non-profit Open Book Foundation. Thanks to Terry Borzumato-Greenberg and all the good people at Holiday House for donating copies of my books to the kids, their teachers, and the school’s library.

The mission of An Open Book Foundation, formerly Literacy & Prose, is to excite children and teens about reading by connecting them with authors and illustrators and then giving each child a copy of the author’s book to take home. It is often the first book the child has ever owned. IMG_0752

The Code Videen family poster

Parent Stacey Kane sent in an entry to my “Give Back to Maryland” Contest and won a free author visit to her elementary school. The Westover Elementary School’s third, fourth, and fifth graders were fun to talk with and eager to participate in my “revision can be fun” improvisation. The Code Videen family made this poster for my visit. Keep writing, Westover!
